Mari attended George Mason's English Language Institute back in the early 2000s, where she took the Experiencing Graduate Study class that Jane used to teach. Mari now lives in Nagoya, a three or four hour trip by Shinkansen from Tokyo; she was in Tokyo for the weekend attending a seminar, and stayed on to have dinner with us one evening.
