Since we began and ended our trip with Narita City (in terms of accomodations), and since Narita City isn't technically part of either Tohoku, Hokkaido, or Tokyo, we decided to present it separately here. Narita City has two main attractions:
-- Narita Airport
-- Naritasan (a popular Buddist temple)
and is about 60-70 minutes east of Tokyo by train. Since our ryokan in Narita City was only a ten minute train ride from the airport, and we didn't get out of Narita Airport until about 5:30PM JST, Narita City was a very convenient place to crash after the 13 & 1/2 hour airplane ride!

Here is another room in the restaurant in our ryokan. Notice the light wood and white colored walls, along with the white ball that provides light -- very typical Japanese colors and settings.
