Sapporo, the fifth-largest city in Japan by population and the third-largest by geographic area, is best known outside Japan for hosting the 1972 Winter Olympics. In addition, every year it hosts the Sapporo Snow Festival, which draws more than 2 million tourists from around the world; for seven days in February hundreds of beautiful snow statues and ice sculptures line the streets and parks. The city is also home to the famous Sapporo Breweries, and is but a 30 minute train ride from New Chitose Airport.

A close-up of the clock in the Clock Tower, which is located in the middle of Sapporo (an interesting side note is that most Japanese cities do not name their streets, which makes looking at a map (with no street names) quite frustrating! Sapporo also doesn't name its streets, but rather it numbers them based on the number of blocks they are from location North 1, West 1. That is, the road on which the Clock Tower is located is numbered North 1, West 2, meaning that it is but one block west from the center of town. This made finding things in Sapporo very easy!)
