A small town located in Shikotsu-Toya National Park, Noboribetsu Onsen (not to be confused with the town of Noboribetsu, which is but 6 kilometers away) is the largest hot spring town on the island of Hokkaido. The main attractions of Noboribetsu Onsen include Jigokudani (aka "Hell Valley", where the hot springs waters originate from) and Dai-Ichi Takimotokan (a famous hotel that offers 30 hot spring baths).

From this hard to read sign we see that Jigokudani is really a volcanic crater of diameter 450 meters, with the hot springs water bubbling up through holes in the ground.
